What is Aberdaron like?

Aberdaron is a small town in Wales. If you want to be able to take a walk along the beach or go on a hike, this is a great place for you. Aberdaron is also close to some other great destinations if you want to combine your camping trip with sightseeing. Mainly the attractions fro this area are the scenic walks along beaches like Porthor beach – or otherwise known as Whistling Sands. There is a cafe at this location too so it is really nice for a full day trip out.

Mynydd Mawr Caravan and Camping Site

So this site deserves a mention for being great value. It is located at the tip of the Llyn peninsula in this region of north west Wales. The llyn peninsula is famed for its microclimate – so when it’s cold in the rest of England and Wales. This specific area can really have some amazing freak sunshine and weather. the iste has a refurbished shower and toilet block with washing area and freezer access. This site does allow campfires, which is all the more perfect considering its position overlooking Bardsey Island.

The facilities are reported as very clean with really well spaced camping pitches. This site is great for getting back to nature with a perfect coastal path for running and walking in the early mornings. The location is also perfect for local beaches with several within a 30 minute drive. Mynydd Mawr Caravan and Camping Site is all about the views and highly recommended by all who stay there.

Ty-Newydd Farm Caravan and Camping Site

This dog friendly campsite is within 2 miles of a nice set of shops and restaurants. If you like a reasonable walk and the event of somewhere to walk to then this will really suit your lifestyle. Within walking distance are the Caffi Ty Newydd Cafe and the Becws Islyn Bakery. So if your camping stove is on the blink then heading out for coffee with a view or breakfast from the bakery is certainly a popular option.

Restaurants within walking distance include: Y Gegin Fawr, Sblash Caban Pysgod and Gwesty Ty Newydd which is especially good for a Sunday lunch.

Once again this site is well maintained and the cleanliness is exceptional. The great spot for walking makes it another camping site in Aberdaron that keeps visitors returning year after year.

Mur Melyn Camping & Caravanning Site

The location of this site is more remote than the first two recommendations. The location away from the crowds though allows for large open spaces which are perfect for children to play in and be safe. The location also means that although a little more hidden away it is closer to some of the best beaches on Aberdaron. It is important to note though that even though tucked away, the campsite is still only 10 minutes drive from Whistling Sands and Aberdaron centre.

What Should I Bring?

When camping, it is always best to plan ahead. If you are packing your tent, don’t forget to bring clothes, cooking supplies, and any medication that you might need. If you’re bringing food, try to pack enough for the whole trip because it’s harder to find things in the town of Aberdaron than it would be in the city for example. When packing clothes, make sure you include plenty of layers since the weather can change quickly at night or in foggy mornings.
